DIEFFENBACHER showcases innovative Fiber2Fiber fiberboard recycling process for project partners<\/p>\n

On April 29 and 30, partners in the EcoReFibre research project met at DIEFFENBACHER headquarters in Eppingen, Germany, to review progress and plan next steps toward developing processes for recycling end-of-life fiberboards and using recycled wood fibers to produce new fiberboards. Funded by the European Union with 12 million euros, the EcoReFibre (\u201cEcological solutions for recovery of secondary materials from post-consumer fiberboards\u201d) research project includes 20 organizations from seven countries. <\/p>\n

During the meeting, DIEFFENBACHER presented the two key steps of its Fiber2Fiber fiber preparation process. Project partners then saw demonstrations of the company\u2019s process for using steam to extract fibers from post-consumer fiberboard chips and its system for cleaning recycled fibers of impurities. At last year\u2019s EcoReFibre meeting, DIEFFENBACHER showcased its dry process for fiberboard recycling.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith a throughput of more than 1,200 kg\/h, our Fiber2Fiber process has exceeded the ambitious process target of 500 kg\/h,\u201d says Michael Rupp, who leads DIEFFENBACHER\u2019s Recycling Business Unit. \u201cThis makes us optimistic that the EcoReFibre project will achieve its goals next year, giving an enormous boost to fiberboard recycling on an industrial scale,\u201d he continues.<\/p>\n
