Melbourne’s City Square has been hosting a very special house. Produced by ArchiBlox, this house is called as the world’s first carbon-positive prefabricated house which will be the future of modular buildings. Designed to produce more energy than its uses, the Carbon Positive House (CPH) has been created to free us of modern day lifelines and make significant contributions within society.
Developed and created through innovative design sensitivities and new technologies, the CPH has moved beyond carbon zero by making additional ‘positive’ contributions by producing more energy on-site than the building requires. It’s been shown as a revolutionary step forward in Australian Architecture and Construction.
ArchiBlox combines the very best of sustainable modular design with sophisticated pre-fabrication. While creating inspiring prefabricated homes and buildings offering flexible design solutions for any dwelling need, the company describes the CPH with their own words; “The livings areas awash with sunlight and flush with fresh air flow seamlessly into wet areas and bedroom spaces. Moving joinery allow spaces to grow or contract as required, making areas bigger or smaller depending upon the activity. Loft areas create escape nooks or more bedrooms. All oriented towards the north and the houses conservatory, not only a place to buffer the external environment, but a place to grow vegies, to relax, unwind.”
ArchiBlox’s designing takes place in the company’s Richmond Studio and Pre-fabricated in their Wonthaggi facility, distributed throughout all of Australia. The Modules are transported by truck to site where they are installed and fitted onto screw piles a non evasive footing system. All projects are designed, built and delivered in 12 – 28 weeks.
Design Features of CPH:
In-ground Cool Tubes: to help with cooling
Sliding Edible Garden Walls: to block sun penetration
Green Roof: for added thermal insulation
The Buffer Zone: “The lungs of the house” & “Food Basket”
Healthy Materials: High grade sustainable materials, formaldehyde and VOC free
Airtightness: Airtight building envelope for energy efficiency
