Ultra-matt surfaces with maximum durability: this is made possible by the excimer process for the industrial production of furniture, kitchens and doors. Austrian manufacturer of paints and varnishes ADLER offers the right products for this process: with outstanding environmental credentials and for all common methods of application, including spraying.
Extremely matt look, extremely high chemical and mechanical resistance, resistance to scratches, fingerprints and the formation of shiny patches, pleasant to the touch: excimer technology is the right choice for anyone who wants to combine all these requirements. This process uses special excimer radiation to give the freshly applied, partially gelled coating a microscopic structure of little folds that gives it an extremely matt look. The coating is then cured by means of UV radiation, thereby achieving the desired surface quality within a very short space of time.
Many years of experience
As Austria’s leading manufacturer of paints and varnishes, ADLER has already spent many years working on and refining this pioneering technology. “The trend towards extremely matt surfaces will certainly continue in the future. For industrial customers, the excimer process is definitely the best option for achieving gloss levels in the G05 range or even lower, whilst also avoiding problems with susceptibility to scratches and the formation of shiny patches,” explains Daniel Pesserer, ADLER’s Head of Division for the furniture industry. In addition to excimer coatings for roller application and curtain coating, ADLER’s Research department has now also developed a coating system for spray application – and it’s water-based and therefore virtually emission-free!
Low-emission & water-based
“For spray application, paints and varnishes need to be somewhat thinner, and most manufacturers use solvents to achieve this. However, as experts in environmentally friendly water-based paints and varnishes, we wanted to show that excimer spray paints of the highest quality can also be produced using a water-based solution – and our success proves us right,” says a delighted Pesserer. For transparent coatings, the Bluefin Multilux water UV system has been adapted to work with the excimer process. Most opaque coating systems can also be realised in this way: colour is provided by the classic UV paint Bluefin Pigmolux, then the surface is given a clear topcoat with Bluefin Multilux Top EXC. “Our team has also developed the opaque excimer paint Bluefin Pigmolux EXC for selected colour shades – this allows the optimum colour depth and a perfect colour to be achieved, even with white or black shades, for example,” says Pesserer. Both coating systems can be customised to meet the specific requirements of any user.
Versatile application
The advantages of spray application are obvious: while only flat surfaces can be coated using curtain coating or roll coating systems, spraying allows seamless, all-round coating. Profiled parts, such as drawers, can also be coated. As the rays cure the paint on all sides and in depth under the inert conditions in the excimer system, a perfect all-round surface quality is achieved, even on edges: with a deep matt look and a velvety feel, resistant to fingerprints and the formation of shiny patches, durable and resilient – and all this in a sustainable, low-emission, water-based coating process!
ADLER – paint runs through our veins
With 720 employees, ADLER is Austria’s leading manufacturer of varnishes, paints and wood preservatives. Founded in 1934 by Johann Berghofer, this family business is now managed by a member of the third generation, Andrea Berghofer. Every year, 21,000 tonnes of paint leave the Schwaz plant and are delivered to customers in more than 30 countries worldwide. ADLER has sales subsidiaries in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Netherlands, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia; their sole production site is the ADLER-Werk Lackfabrik in Schwaz, Tyrol (Austria). ADLER was one of the first companies in its sector to be 100% climate-neutral (since 2018). The company has been able to reduce its carbon footprint to a minimum through a wide range of measures. ADLER offsets any unavoidable residual emissions through the purchase of recognised climate protection certificates, thereby helping to finance new climate protection projects
