Designed by Danny Kuo, this staircase storage solution is perfect for small homes because it allows you to save space and to have tons of room for storage.
Building vertically saves space as it uses minimal ground square meters. When it comes to interior design, the same rule can be applied. By focusing on height rather than width, efficient storage designs can be created. However, high storage designs can create a new problem because the higher storage parts will be difficult to reach. Danny Kuo’s staircase is a shelving unit that combines a bookshelf with a pullout stair system in the bottom three shelves. The shelving unit is 2.6 meters high and the top shelves are accessible by using the bottom shelves as steps for accessing the higher shelves.
Being born and raised in the Netherlands while having Asian roots influenced his look on the world and its cultures. Danny Kuo admits that it gave him a broad perspective. As a designer he believes in flexibility and adaptability.
“Living in the 21st century, the digital world is accessible anytime and anywhere on your mobile phone or computer. Also we can travel the real world by jumping on the airplane, we can be nearly anywhere on the world within 24 hours, in a complete different world with other people, colors, nature, buildings, customs, ideas and products. These technological advances have made us, western people, world citizens.
World citizens are no longer tied to one particular place, city or country. Whether it’s for leisure or work, people are increasingly mobile, and this has effect on the way we live. It requests flexibility and adaptability. This is why these are the keywords in my work and life.
This is my vision on a big scale but also on a small scale i feel flexibility should be an important part of life. Technology and innovation allow us to combine different products and make these products more efficient, fun or flexible.
With my products I try to improve people’s lives, by making products more enjoyable by efficiency. “ says Danny Kuo.
