Swiss Krono has operated in Barnwell since 2005 and has made major investments in the facility over the years. In 2016, the company broke ground on a $230 million HDF mill and laminate flooring production expansion. Since 2020, Swiss Krono has also invested around $400 million in capital equipment to vertically integrate MDF production at the site.
The layoffs come at a time when the flooring and wood-based panel industries continue to face pressure from weaker construction activity, changing demand conditions and rising production costs.
The company has not yet shared further details on how the layoffs may affect future operations at the Barnwell facility.
