“Our sector’s ability to manage chaos is our assurance for seizing historic opportunities”
Tayfun Küçükoğlu, Chairman of the Board for the 2020–2023 and 2023–2026 terms of Türkiye İMSAD, shared the work carried out during his chairmanship and his assessments regarding the sector, saying, “Over the last six years we have gone through a challenging period that left its mark on history, such as the global pandemic, economic turbulence and a major earthquake disaster. Despite all these shocks, our construction materials industry increased its exports to 31 billion dollars and rose to become the world’s 5th largest producer. The ‘chaos management’ capability our sector demonstrated in this period is our strongest assurance for capturing the historic opportunities of the next decade.”
“We are making a handover of the flag, but our responsibilities will continue”
Tayfun Küçükoğlu said, “The excitement I felt when I began this honorable duty six years ago has today given way to great peace and pride. As a sector, we got tired, but we became stronger. Anatolia has always created hope, it is a geography where those who think positively and strive for development receive their reward. Türkiye İMSAD’s 42-year deep-rooted traditions and institutional structure are the code to our success. Today we are making a handover of the flag, but our responsibilities will continue, growing even further. I am grateful to my fellow Board members, our committees, our stakeholders and our professional team. I sincerely wish success to my colleagues who will take on duties in the new term,” he concluded.
“We are setting out to expand Türkiye İMSAD’s impact and create value”
Beginning his remarks by thanking the previous term Chairman Tayfun Küçükoğlu and the Board for their valuable contributions to the sector and to Türkiye İMSAD, Murat Savcı, CEO of Saint-Gobain Türkiye and a Board Member of Weber, İzocam and Dalsan, all members of Türkiye İMSAD, said, “The work implemented by our 38th Term Board has created a solid foundation on which we can set new targets today. We are setting out to carry this strong foundation further, expand Türkiye İMSAD’s sphere of influence and create value. We will work with determination to fulfill this responsibility entrusted to us with an effective, inclusive and results-oriented approach.”
“We will set our course together and bring new projects to life”
Stating that they will expand their impact area in the coming term, in addition to ongoing activities, Murat Savcı said, “Türkiye İMSAD is the platform of collective strength for our sector and the representative of common sense. Global transformations and economic fluctuations are highlighting the importance of solidarity and innovative approaches more than ever. While continuing at full speed the projects we carried out in the previous term in the new term as well, we will set our course together with the contributions of our valued members and the experience of our committees and we will also bring new projects to life. In the new term, in particular, we will continue our diligent work on our country’s earthquake safety, our sector’s international competitiveness and exports, digitalization, sustainability and green transformation, regulations and legislation, quality, R&D, innovation, public affairs, and relations with other institutions and associations.”
“Our unity will strengthen our sector”
Recalling Mustafa Kemal Atatürk’s vision of “Peace at Home, Peace in the World,” Murat Savcı said, “By looking at the events and wars in our immediate surroundings today, we see how accurate and guiding this vision, which constitutes one of the fundamental principles of our Republic, truly is. On this occasion, I wish that all wars in our nearby geography end as soon as possible and that peace and tranquility come to all people in the region. I would like to thank all our members and stakeholders once again for their trust, support and contributions and I wish that Türkiye İMSAD’s new term brings success, strength and inspiration to all of us. I believe our unity will increase the strength of our sector and enable us to make stronger contributions to our country’s sustainable development,” he concluded.
Sustainable energy solutions are a strategic playing field for Türkiye İMSAD members
At Türkiye İMSAD’s 39th Ordinary Electoral General Assembly, Kerem Alkin, Dean of the Faculty of Communication at Istanbul Topkapı University and Ambassador, delivered a presentation titled “Energy Geopolitics and 2026 Scenarios.” Stating that the world has entered a new era called “Second Mercantilism,” where knowledge and data are absolute power, Kerem Alkin emphasized that changes in global trade corridors and competition over critical minerals contain new opportunities and risks for the construction industry. Drawing attention especially to the increasing energy needs of data centers, he noted that next-generation construction materials to be used in the construction of these centers and sustainable energy solutions offer a strategic playing field for Türkiye İMSAD members. Kerem Alkin also underlined that geopolitical pressures on gold, copper and energy prices for 2026 have initiated a “cost management” process that industrialists need to monitor closely.
In addition to geopolitical pressures on gold, copper and energy prices, Kerem Alkin warned that fluctuations in the dollar index could affect export markets through the Euro–Dollar parity. In this “cost management” process that needs to be followed closely by industrialists, he stressed that financial resilience against high credit costs and inflationary pressures and taking a place in new-generation trade corridors, such as the Development Road and the Three Seas Initiative, are indispensable strategies.
