Equine Design Studio’s Nature-Integrated Equestrian Facility: Bozanoğlu Stables

Bozanoğlu Stables, realized by Equine Design Studio in Çatalca, stands as a contemporary example of rural architecture through its strong relationship with the natural landscape, environmental sensitivity, refined architectural approach, and a spatial layout shaped around the needs of both horses and riders.

Led by architect Kaan Alkan, Equine Design Studio specializes in equestrian sports clubs and stud farm design. Located in Istanbul’s northwestern countryside, far from dense urban fabric, Bozanoğlu Stables aims to offer its users a high-quality equestrian experience immersed in nature. Site planning decisions were shaped by the existing topography, sun exposure, and prevailing wind conditions, enabling a solid setup with minimal intervention to the land.

With an architectural language built on simplicity and material honesty, the facility’s structural blocks prominently feature local red brick and natural timber as the primary materials defining both exterior and interior character. These choices support sustainability, low maintenance needs, and a graceful aging potential over time, while wooden ceilings add warmth to the spaces by providing acoustic and thermal comfort.

At the heart of the facility is an indoor riding arena designed for year-round use. Architectural solutions that optimize natural daylight and cross-ventilation, combined with technical criteria such as ground layering, climate control, and air quality, deliver high standards aligned with equine health and performance.

Designed for riders and visitors, the clubhouse stands out as a multi-functional volume that brings together social interaction, relaxation, and viewing functions. Semi-open terraces and a planning approach that strengthens indoor-outdoor continuity prioritize user comfort while establishing a natural unity with surrounding views. Designed with minimal intervention to preserve ecological integrity, the forest trail, an important component of the project, offers users the opportunity to experience nature on horseback.

Bringing together Equine Design Studio’s extensive expertise, nature-conscious design principles, and deep knowledge of equestrian culture, Bozanoğlu Stables sets a new benchmark in rural architecture with its holistic approach centered on equine welfare, sustainability, and user experience. Thanks to its architectural simplicity, functional clarity, and strong bond with nature, it positions itself as a distinctive, high-quality reference that inspires the future of contemporary equestrian spaces in Türkiye.
