The Tax Inspection Board will take action against taxpayers who harm the public by using fake documents under the scope of tax evasion. Minister of Treasury and Finance Mehmet Şimşek announced that the new regulation will begin to be implemented on October 1.
The Ministry of Treasury and Finance will step up measures against the acts of using and issuing bogus documents, which cause billions of lira in public losses each year.
According to information obtained by an AA correspondent from the Ministry, the Presidency of the Tax Inspection Board (VDK) has launched a new initiative targeting forgery in financial documents.
The Presidency will put stricter measures and policies into effect as of October 1.
In this context, tax assessments that a taxpayer “unknowingly” used a fake document will be discontinued and an approach that assumes the document was used “knowingly” will be adopted. Thus a significant portion of taxpayers who use fake documents will now be processed under “tax evasion” and a threefold tax loss penalty will be imposed.
