“HOUSING PRODUCTION AND SALES WILL INCREASE”

President of the Contractors Federation (MÜFED) Ayhan Sulak:
“HOUSING PRODUCTION AND SALES WILL INCREASE”

Our sector made a rapid start to 2025. We observe that the demand that began in the last months of last year has continued this year. According to TurkStat data, housing sales grew by 7.3 percent in the first four months of 2025. A total of 118,359 housing units were sold, of which 34,633 were first-hand sales; 17,465 of those first-hand sales were mortgage transactions.

Following the earthquakes, citizens have sought earthquake-resistant and reliable housing, and rising rental prices have also pushed people toward purchasing homes. For the momentum in the sector to continue into the second half of 2025, the land issue—currently the main driver of increases in housing prices—must be resolved. High land prices and high land-for-flat exchange ratios are causing supply problems. New housing areas must be created to solve this issue.

Our country’s top priority must be to give precedence to urban transformation against earthquakes; urgent measures are needed in this regard. Housing loan interest rates should be lowered so that citizens can obtain earthquake-resistant, safe, and new housing. The upcoming period will be a preparation phase for our colleagues. We believe we are entering a period in which housing production and sales will rise.
