Biesse Design Lab launches in Türkiye
Biesse, a global company operating in processing technologies for wood, glass, stone, metal, and advanced engineering materials, is launching Biesse Design Lab in Türkiye, a new project that brings together the world of design and production technologies.
Founded in Italy in 1969 and now active on a global scale in multi-material processing technologies, Biesse aims with this new project to connect the creative ideas of young designers with production technologies.
Universities, industry, and the design world meet on the same platform
Set to begin with a pilot implementation in 2026, Biesse Design Lab aims to create a new collaboration platform between universities, industry, and the design world. Within the scope of the pilot project, students selected from Industrial Design and product-oriented design programs at universities in Istanbul will produce original designs by using at least two of the following materials together: wood, glass, stone, metal, and advanced engineering materials.
Throughout the program, students will have the opportunity to develop their designs and experience production processes through inspiring gatherings, workshops, and mentoring support from industry professionals. The projects, which will be brought to life using Biesse technologies, will be exhibited at the end of the program. The designer of the best project selected by the jury will earn the right to participate in a special design-focused program to be held in Italy.
A new bridge between design education and production technologies
Biesse Design Lab also aims to create a sustainable field of interaction between design education and advanced production technologies and to enable young designers to experience a culture of production through a multi-material approach.
The foundations of the project were laid through the intersection of the visions of Yelda Akıncı Bostan, General Manager of Biesse Türkiye and the Middle East, and Esmer Erdem, Art and Design Project Manager.
Yelda Akıncı Bostan, General Manager of Biesse Türkiye and the Middle East, said the following about the project:
“With Biesse Design Lab, we aim to go beyond being a company that develops production technologies alone and create a platform that supports design and creativity. Bringing the ideas of young designers together with real production technologies will create important value for both the sector and the creative ecosystem.”
An opportunity for young designers to meet production
Esmer Erdem, Art and Design Project Manager, stated that Biesse Design Lab will offer an important production experience for the design world and said:
“We designed Biesse Design Lab as a creative learning space where design, material, and production technologies come together. It is very valuable for us that young designers can experience production processes by using different materials together and transform their ideas into real products. We believe this program will create a strong and sustainable field of interaction between design education and industry.”
The academic coordination of the project is being carried out by Karaca Erdem, Corporate Development and Strategy Consultant and Lecturer at Medipol University.
Biesse Design Lab, which begins with a pilot implementation, is intended to be expanded in the coming years with the participation of different stakeholders and to evolve into a design platform growing on an international scale.
